What is the Enneagram?

What is the enneagram? And why is it so vital to our development as human beings? In this article, you’ll learn about the nine enneagram types and power of the enneagram and knowing your enneagram type. We’ll explore how we grow using this tool and help you understand exactly why it is such an integral part of Awakenly.

The Enneagram is a powerful tool for self-discovery and personal growth. It is a psychological system that can be used to understand yourself, your relationships and the world around you. It’s not just a “personality test", it’s a way to understand the human psyche, not just in terms of types but also as an exploration of how people interact with each other. It's a map that helps us understand what motivates us and why we do what we do. It shows us how our actions lead to certain results.

You have probably seen the enneagram displayed as a star-shaped web. This is a symbol that represents nine different personality types of the Enneagram. Each type has its own distinct set of needs, fears and motivations. By understanding your type, you can better understand yourself and others around you.

However, the Enneagram is not about judging or labeling people; rather it teaches us how to use our personalities in a way that leads to greater self-awareness, compassion and connection with others.  It is a roadmap to presence. This is how we unlock our inner muse. We search deep within to release our ego. We identify our innermost feelings, emotions, thoughts, desires, habits, and to learn how we can take control of them rather than letting them control us.

The Enneagram is a system that helps us understand our own behavior. It teaches us how to use this knowledge to change what we don’t like about ourselves and become the person we want to be. As you explore the nine types and their corresponding characteristics, you may notice similarities in yourself or others you know. Remember that everyone has both strengths and weaknesses; no type is better than another, simply different.
